During these displays, they sometimes make moo sounds that are like a cows. ![]() The million-year-old creature actually has vocals like that. As mentioned, shoebill storks regularly go viral online for their distinct noise. Sometimes, they do bill-clattering displays near their nests. In fact, as it looms closer to the camera, it is pretty evident that this isn’t some editing used to make the bird sound like that. Needless to say, it is the last thing anyone would expect to come out of a bird’s beak, but that’s what makes it so fascinating. In the clip, which has been making the rounds on social media, a Shoebill stork is seen making a series of grunting and unexpecting sounds that is eerily similar to a machine gun going off. But its most obvious use is as a hunting weapon. Its also used as a practical tool to scoop water from nearby rivers and lakes and feed their young. Shoebills live in the vast wetlands of the Nile watershed in eastern Africa. ![]() This weird animal uses it to produce machine gun-like noises which can attract mates and deter predators.
